Nice one. The hipotenuse of the red triangle and the one of the dark
green triangle are not a straight line (the two hipothenuses make
different angles with the horizontal line in fact...)

If you put a piece of paper alongside the longest side of the second
triangle (the hypotenuse) you can see that it is not a straight line,
but just appears to look like one.

if you take the area of the rectangle that would hold both sets of
parts it is 13x5 = 65, so half of that is 65/2 = 32.5, if you then
take the area of each piece is 8 * 3 / 2 = 12, 2 * 5 / 2 = 5, 5 + 2 =
7, 5 + 3 = 8. The sum of the area's of a set of pieces is 32. So
each set has half a block that it can't fill up so those two halves
appear in the "hole"

I can't believe the answers I read. It's a nice puzzle, but not that
hard to figure out. The reason for the "hole" is tha the red triangle
ends up overlapping part of the area it occupied before the parts were
moved around. The total area of the overlap amounts to one square
slot.

it wasnt that hard the reason i came up with was that the light green
and the ornage wasnt on top of each other and that the red and the
dark green are weird haha thats not a very good reason is it? haha

The slope of the triangles is not the same. If you complete the upper
rectangle by rotating all the shapes there will be a little sliver
between the two diagonals left over. If you do the same to the lower
shape the diagonals of the two halves of the completed rectangle will
overlap. It helps to realize that the two triangles' diagonals are
not the same line (not parallel) but turn slightly right at the point
they meet.
