Puff! The US Puzzle Championship is
over... The problems
were designed quite intelligently and some of them were pretty hard to solve.
OOps, Mac is here, gotta go help him move his big heavy entertainment
center (and probably my couch) from Berkeley. Ciao!
I have been trying to post this for a long time but
it was in the queue... This is what happens when
Google buys Metafilter! :-)
Jeremy Zawodny:
"Some might argue that blogs killed PageRank. But the fact is, the online world goes through pretty impressive changes every few years. And, believe it or not, PageRank is old. In Internet time, PageRank may have been well into middle age.
Its death hasn't been announced yet, but the time is near. The signs have been around for quite a while."
Here are some quick links for the rest of your Memorical day weekend:

Guess the Dictator or Television Sit-Com Character:
Here are the rules: Pretend to be a dictator or television sitcom character. I'll try to guess who you are by asking simple yes/no questions. If you're not sure of the answer to a question, answer "No". If you forgot who you were pretending to be, go take a nap, you're obviously under too much stress. Also, drink plenty of fluids.

The Los Angeles Lakers lost the match against San Antionio Spurs and got
eliminated from the playoffs. If only Robert Horry had made that shot like
what he did last year...
Watching their last match on www.nba.com was a horrible experience!

Geeks will love this one:
"any young people around the world use the internet every day, and yet they have no memory of the history that led to the creation of the global network. Many have no understanding of how or why the internet has developed. As part of out continuing efforts to combat ignorance around the world, The Lemon is proud to present
history of the Internet!" :-)

Looksmart joins the battle of search engines by
introducing the new and improved Grub in order to use
the very best of distributed computing to build the best search engine on the web.
"It automatically crawls the Web in the background, borrowing your computer's spare clock cycles,
so you won't even notice it's there. The download is quick, you control how much you crawl,
and the cool screensaver shows you the real-time progress your computer is making.
You can even compare your stats to other Grubsters in the project!"
Use this tool to get the most updated
status of any site in XML format. There are also two URLs which serve your requests and
return the result in a data set. You can also use wisenut
(which like must of the search engines lacks a grouping algorithm) to test the index.
What I love most about Grub (aside from the idea and the technology), is its UI.
It's perfectly unique, especially when entering the URL
here! The only
down side I noticed is the processing slowness when a search is performed since it's
written in PHP.
Download any of the clients to become a part of the game!
NBA Today:
"I never would have imagined to be anywhere close to that list. It's definitely an honor." - Tim Duncan, after winning his second consecutive MVP award Sunday.
Duncan is the eighth player to win the MVP award in consecutive seasons, the last being Michael Jordan in 1991-92. The record is three straight - by Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell.
